ACCREDITATION ROADMAP
How to Become a VA-Accredited Claims Agent
VA's Office of General Counsel controls claims-agent accreditation. Mission Claim Academy can help candidates study and prepare, but only VA can determine eligibility, authorize an applicant to sit for the examination, and grant accreditation.

Apply with VA
Claims-agent candidates apply through VA's Office of General Counsel. VA provides the current application process and VA Form 21a information.
Complete VA's character-and-fitness review
VA evaluates applicants before authorizing them to proceed in the accreditation process. Processing procedures can change, so candidates should follow current OGC instructions.
Receive authorization and pass the examination
VA Form 21a states that claims-agent applicants who establish initial eligibility must achieve a score of at least 75 percent on the VA-administered written examination as a prerequisite to accreditation.
Maintain accreditation
Accredited agents have continuing training and certification obligations. Always verify the current requirements with VA OGC rather than relying on an old checklist.
Mission Claim Academy is not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Course completion does not confer accreditation, authorize representation, or guarantee examination eligibility or passage.
