TINNITUS CLAIM GUIDE
VA Tinnitus Claim Evidence: What to Organize
Tinnitus is a hearing-related condition that can have different causes. For a VA disability claim, the useful organizational question is not simply whether tinnitus exists, but what evidence addresses the claimed connection to military service or another applicable theory.

Evidence to organize
Current medical or audiology records that document tinnitus symptoms when available.
Military occupational, deployment, incident, or other service records relevant to the claimed exposure or event.
Hearing tests, entrance or separation records, and post-service audiology history when relevant.
Lay statements describing onset, continuity, frequency, and the Veteran's firsthand experience of symptoms.
Questions to map before review
- 01When did the ringing, buzzing, or other tinnitus symptoms begin?
- 02What service events, duties, exposures, injuries, or records are relevant?
- 03What hearing or audiology evidence exists before and after service?
- 04Are there other medical explanations or related conditions that need professional evaluation?
Mission Claim does not diagnose medical conditions or predict VA outcomes. Medical questions should be addressed with a qualified health professional. Claim-specific legal or representation questions may require a VA-accredited representative.
