C&P EXAMS

VA C&P Exams: Prepare to Describe Your Condition Accurately

VA may schedule a claim exam when additional information is needed to decide a disability claim. The exam is part of the evidence-development process and should be approached as an opportunity to provide accurate information.

Know what condition is being examined

Review the appointment information and the condition or issue involved. Bring your understanding of the history, current symptoms, treatment, and functional impact into the exam.

Describe frequency and functional impact accurately

Avoid minimizing or exaggerating. Explain symptoms in concrete terms, including how often they occur, how long they last, and how they affect work, daily activities, sleep, mobility, concentration, or other relevant functions.

Do not miss a scheduled exam

VA advises claimants not to miss scheduled claim exams. If you have a scheduling problem, use the contact information provided with the appointment as soon as possible.
